Former Nigeria defender Joseph Yobo has singled out two Super Eagles stars for their efforts against Equatorial Guinea after both countries played a 1-1 draw at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cote d’Ivoire.
Yobo also encouraged the Super Eagles to do better when they face the host nation in their next encounter on Thursday.
Ivan Salvador put Equatorial Guinea in ahead in the first half of the opening meeting before Victor Osimhen leveled for the Super Eagles.
Speaking after the game, Yobo, who was a guest on Afrosports AFCON 2023 broadcast, said: “Most importantly, we didn’t lose this game. I believe we can do better in the next game against Ivory Coast. Inasmuch as we had chances to win Equatorial Guinea, I will, nonetheless, encourage the team to focus on their next game.
“Super Eagles still have the character of reacting when they concede a goal. The confidence of the team is there and I am glad that they reacted excellently just a few seconds after going down one goal.
“Credit to Osimhen for netting the goal and also to Lookman for providing the assist. The team must keep the spirit going.”
