The Green Bay Packers have advanced to the divisional round of the 2023 playoffs. When it came to the playoffs, the Packers were almost forgotten by the halfway point of the season. They are now one of the last eight clubs in the playoffs.
The Packers will fly west to face the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night. The Packers opted to bring in a former Bears defender for a workout ahead of that game.
The Green Bay Packers Work Out Former Chicago Bears Defender Prior To Their Matchup Against The San Francisco 49ers
According to reporter Aaron Wilson, the Packers have brought in Desliln Alexandre for a workout.
Listed at 6’3″ and 264 pounds, defensive end Deslin Alexandre is 25 years old. In his five year college career, he racked up 131 tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks, and seven pass breakups while earning two all-ACC honorable mentions.
Alexandre’s preseason tape largely confirmed Lance Zierlein’s assessment of him in his predraft profile for NFL.com:
Alexandre (6-foot-4, 264 pounds) is an edge defender who relies on his broad frame and natural power. He’s long and naturally heavy-handed, but he will need to play with much better bend to improve his ability to hold the point against the run.
While he’s a segment mover at times, he does have quick feet and shows decent pursuit quickness and motor. He’s a face-up rusher who is unlikely to beat NFL opponents with craft moves and counters, so fortifying his power rush will be critical as a Day 3 possibility for 4-3 defenses.
With Kingsley Enagbare’s ACL injury, it is very possible the Packers are looking to add some more depth at the edge rusher position. Alexandre could fit that role. He has previously spent time this year with the New York Jets and Chicago Bears.
