The Michigan Wolverines have finished their perfect season with a national championship. They do, however, rank among the programs with the highest inquiries going into 2024. Jim Harbaugh, the head coach, has been interviewed by the Los Angeles Chargers and may decide to play in the NFL. According to a recent story, the Wolverines already have a strategy in place in case he did that.
Michigan Wolverines Plan If Jim Harbaugh Leaves
Michigan offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore is the favorite to land the job if Harbaugh leaves. It isn’t hard to see why. When the head coach was suspended for the last three games of the regular season, Moore stepped in and went 3-0. It was who the opponents were that was so impressive. He went into Happy Valley and beat Penn State and then also beat Ohio State at home. The middle game was against Maryland which could have easily been a letdown game. There likely will be other candidates but Moore would bring continutity to the program.
Getting Paid Regardless
The report also indicates that even if Harbaugh stays, the university will be giving its coordinators a large payday. Both Moore and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter are due for lucrative contracts. Michigan is hoping to continue to dominating the Big Ten even with all of the new teams joining. Obviously, the team is hoping that Jim Harbaugh stays but they have a great backup plan in place if he leaves.
The Michigan Wolverines got their national championship. It makes what happens next not as big of a deal for fans. Many college football programs would kill for a championship so they fact that they got one helps fans feel better about whatever happens.
