Christian Arroyo is finally moving on from the Boston Red Sox after four seasons now that the infielder has inked a new contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.
MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy announced Thursday morning that the Milwaukee Brewers had signed infielder Christian Arroyo.
According to FanSided’s Robert Murray, Arroyo is expected to sign a one-year minor league contract. If he makes the Brewers’ Opening Day roster, the 28-year-old will earn $1.5 million, plus a maximum of $500K in incentives.

Arroyo spent the previous four seasons with the Boston Red Sox, where he was a part-time starter at numerous infield positions, most notably second base. Boston designated Arroyo for assignment in August, and he elected free agency when the 2023 season ended.
The San Francisco Giants selected Arroyo in the first round of the 2013 MLB Draft, and he made his major league debut with the team in 2017. In December 2017, the Giants traded four players to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for third baseman Evan Longoria.
Arroyo spent the next year and a half with the Rays, who traded him to the Cleveland Indians at the 2019 MLB Trade Deadline.
The Red Sox claimed Arroyo off waivers midway through the COVID-shortened 2020 season, and he has remained with the team ever since.
Arroyo most famously helped Boston during its playoff run in 2021. Arroyo had nine hits over an eight-game stretch of ALDS and ALCS games, batting.300 with three home runs and an.800 OPS.
In 224 regular-season games with the Red Sox, Arroyo batted.264 with 18 home runs, 93 RBI, a.716 OPS, and 2.2 WAR. Arroyo’s career batting average is.252, with a.693 OPS and 2.0 WAR.
One of Arroyo’s most useful qualities in Boston was his defensive versatility. He played first base, second base, third base, shortstop, and right field, but only had 17 outfield appearances and saved -5 defensive runs. Arroyo rescued 11 defensive runs overall.
The Brewers will now allow Arroyo to attend Spring Training as a non-roster invitee. FanGraphs presently forecasts Milwaukee to platoon Brice Turang and Owen Miller at second base in 2024, and considering that neither has much MLB experience, Arroyo has a chance to get some innings there.
