SUCCESSFUL DEAL; Lions now confirm a 2year contract extension of the all-star

Marcus Sayles, an American defensive back, has signed a two-year deal, the B.C. Lions announced on Saturday.

On February 13, the two-time CFL all-star was declared free agent.

After an outstanding 2023 season in which he recorded 38 defensive tackles, three tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and seven pass breakups in 18 regular-season games, Sayles, 29, is back with the Lions for his fourth season.

With 68 defensive tackles, four interceptions—one of which was recovered for a score in a win versus Winnipeg on October 15—and a stellar 2022 season, Ayles had a career year. He later recorded an interception in Winnipeg’s West Division Final and was named a CFL and West Division all-star.

In 2021, the adaptable defence signed with the Lions as a free agency. He played linebacker and halfback that season, recording 52 defensive tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in 13 games.

Sayles played his debut season of the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, where he was named to the West all-star team in his rookie campaign. He finished 2019 with a championship ring, having had a game-high six defensive tackles in the team’s 107th Grey Cup victory over Hamilton.
