Should Chicago Bears sign Yetur Gross-Matos in free agency?
Gross-Matos was previously a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft. He didn’t play much for the Panthers as a rookie, but he had a strong pass-rush victory percentage. He played almost the same number of snaps in 2021, and while he was efficient, an ankle issue hampered his performance.
He returned in 2022, healthier than ever, but his sack total dropped from 3.5 to 2.5. Finally, in 2023, he missed the most time of any year due to a hamstring ailment.
On the good side, he was playing for a poor team, and now he is 25 years old and healthy, ready for free agency. While he lacks the stats and production to command a high salary, he would be an ideal candidate for the Chicago Bears.
Yetur Gross-Matos has moved up and down the line and has more than 200 career snaps as an interior lineman, primarily as a pass rusher. That, combined with 76 coverage snaps, including 52 last year, demonstrates a dynamic athlete capable of stunting, twisting, and playing up and down the line.
Based on what the Bears did this year and what Eric Washington did with the Buffalo Bills, Yetur Gross-Matos is a great scheme fit.
The Chicago Bears desperately need depth at edge rushers. Gross-Matson has not broken out, but he has proven to be a reliable rotational edge rusher who would be a valuable pickup in free agency.
