Saltiban, an 18-year-old outfielder, made his minor-league debut last year. Rincon appears to be talented, but the Phillies do not have room in the majors for a shortstop as long as Turner is around, which will be for at least the next five to seven years. With Williams, Philadelphia adds a reliever who might help the team win the World Series in 2024.
His record includes stints with several teams, but he rose to prominence with the Green Bay Packers, where he tutored Brett Favre in his later years and helped Aaron Rodgers become an MVP quarterback and Super Bowl winner.
That would be enough to get Clements into the quarterbacks coach Hall of Fame, but after a few years away from Green Bay, head coach Matt LaFleur called the Packers’ secret weapon back last season to help him get Jordan Love up to speed.
Despite a rocky start, Clements once again worked his magic for the Packers. Something clicked for Love toward the middle of the season, and he finished his debut season as the starter in Green Bay as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, throwing for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Love rose to prominence in front of our eyes, but Clements was working behind the scenes, just as he had with Rodgers and Favre before Love.
Is there good news for both the Packers and Love? Despite the fact that he is approaching his 71st birthday, LaFleur announced earlier this week that Clements will continue to train Love and Green Bay’s quarterbacks for another season.
Could he be the Packers’ secret weapon as they attempt to expand on their offensive prowess in 2023? Could he be the secret to elevating Love to superstar status in his second full season with LaFleur’s offense?
If Clements’ resume is any indicator, Love will likely continue to thrive. The quarterback whisperer carries on.
