Jesse Chavez, the former Atlanta Braves reliever, has found a new home. According to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times, Chavez has reached an agreement with the Chicago White Sox to play minor league baseball. According to the source, Chavez’s contract includes an invitation to major league Spring Training.
Chavez, 40, recently told MLB Network Radio that the 2024 season will most likely be his last. He had recently posted footage of himself tossing on his Instagram account and was hoping for one last chance.

Chavez was a key member of the Braves bullpen early last season before being struck in the shin by a line liner off Miguel Cabrera’s bat in Detroit on June 14. That put him on the disabled list for three months before returning to make five more appearances at the end of the season. He was left off the Braves’ Division Series roster.
Chavez participated in 36 games for Atlanta last season, recording a 1.56 ERA and 3.05 FIP in 34 2/3 innings. He spent parts of the last three seasons with the Braves, including two stints in 2022. It is for this reason that you can never rule out a reunion, but the Braves spent a significant amount of effort this winter replenishing their bullpen, making it tough to see where he may fit in. The White Sox, on the other hand, do not have a terrific bullpen situation right now, and Chavez has a good chance of making the opening day roster.
