The Atlanta Braves are losing a player that they have really cherished over the years. Certain athletes seem to consistently find their way back to the Atlanta Braves.
Whether it’s Charlie Culberson signing repeated minor league contracts with the team, including most recently as a reliever, or the team dealing for Adam Duvall many times, certain players just keep finding their way back to Truist Park.And one of the most recent examples of a player who frequently returns to Atlanta, reliever Jesse Chavez, appears to be departing the club again, having signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox.
Chavez recently confessed to MLB Network Radio that he wants one more major league opportunity before retiring, and he finds it in the American League, where numerous former Braves were moved this summer, including RHP Michael Soroka, infielder Nicky Lopez, and prospect Braden Shewmake.The 40-year-old was having one of his greatest seasons last year, pitching to a 1.55 ERA in 31 appearances before the All-Star Break, when he took a comebacker to the shin from Detroit Tigers legend Miguel Cabrera. Initially considered to be a bruise, he was placed on the 15-day IL and subsequently the 60-day IL with a fractured leg and did not return until late September, pitching only 5.2 innings down the stretch for Atlanta and not having enough time to make a playoff roster case.
