Julian Humphrey is not leaving.
Humphrey informed Rusty Mansell of DawgsHQ that he would reverse course and remain in Georgia. Humphrey indicated on Tuesday night that he would be using the transfer site, but this is no longer the case.
“I took that into consideration a lot,” Humphrey told Mansell. “I know with a strong year at Georgia, I can make it to the NFL. Why would I leave Georgia for a few extra cash, I wondered? I want to be there because Georgia has one of the best programs in the country.”
“Almost every team in the country has reached out. I blew up my phone and said this and that. When I think of Georgia, I realize that it is a prestigious school. It’s like a top-notch school. Finally, I thought, “Why leave that and go somewhere else?”
Humphrey becomes the second Georgia cornerback to openly announce his intention to enter the transfer portal, only to not do so. Daniel Harris did the same, declaring that he will join the transfer portal on Christmas, only to remain at Georgia.
Humphrey’s season was cut short due to a collarbone injury sustained in the triumph over Ole Miss. He did not play in Georgia’s final four games.
Humphrey played nine games as a redshirt freshman, recording nine tackles and one pass breakup. He signed for the 2022 recruiting cycle out of Houston.
Humphrey was with the team in Miami for the Orange Bowl, but did not play. He practiced, but wore a black non-contact jersey.
Humphrey appeared to hint that he will return to Georgia for another season, but this is no longer the case.
Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter has declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. The Bulldogs also saw Nyland Green and AJ Harris leave the program through the transfer portal.
Georgia will bring back starter Daylen Everette. Harris expects to play a significantly larger role next season. He received considerable playing time in the victory over Florida State. Chris Peal will also return for the second season.
Georgia signed three cornerbacks in the 2024 recruiting cycle, including Ellis Robinson, DeMello Jones, and Ondre Evans. All three players were present at bowl practice. Robinson is the top-ranked cornerback in the country this season.
The transfer portal for Georgia players shuts on Thursday at 11:59 p.m. There will be a new portal window in April.
Georgia finished the season 13-1, including a 63-3 triumph over Florida State.
