With the commitment of offensive lineman Diego Pounds, a transfer from North Carolina, to Ole Miss, the Rebels are once again demonstrating their strength in the transfer portal. After playing in all 13 games for the Tar Heels last season, the left lineman will be a redshirt junior with two years of eligibility left. For Ole Miss, this is a significant addition.
In the Tar Heels’ season opener against South Carolina, the 6-foot-6, 330-pound Pounds was listed as the team’s backup left tackle; however, in Week 2, against Appalachian State, he was named to the starting lineup. He participated in every offensive play during that contest and finished the season with eight starts.
Pounds, who can play both tackle positions, is the third-ranked offensive tackle on the transfer portal. In 2024, he might get the opportunity
The native of North Carolina went to Millbrook High School and was a three-star offensive tackle. Pounds earned offers from Alabama, LSU, Oregon, and Miami in addition to North Carolina.
In August, Mack Brown, the head coach of North Carolina, described Pounds as “huge, he’s got great feet, and he’s smart.”
The work in the trenches for John Garrison and the Rebs is far from done, even with the recruitment of another outstanding lineman. The following portal recruits are still being pursued by Ole Miss: offensive linemen Lance Heard (LSU) and Percy Lewis (Mississippi State).
