Nikita Zadorov, a defenseman for the Vancouver Canucks, was punished for two games on Saturday by the NHL’s department of player safety for illegally checking Detroit Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond’s head.
Zadoarov will miss the Red Wings’ games against Washington on Sunday and Chicago on Tuesday, but he can play on Thursday when the teams p
lay a rematch in Vancouver at 10 p.m. on Bally Sports Detroit.
In the neutral zone, Zadorov struck Raymond in the head at 4:07 of the second period of the Red Wings’ 4-3 overtime victory at Little Caesars Arena. Raymond lay on the ice for a while while receiving attention from the training staff, then skated off on his own and missed a few shifts before Zadorov received a match-day penalty.
Zadorov is going to lose $39,062.50. The Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund is the beneficiary of the funds.
Red Wings place forward Nolan Stevens on waivers for purpose of contract termination
A minor league asset in the organisation of the Detroit Red Wings is headed away.
The Red Wings declared on Sunday that they are putting forward Nolan Stevens on waivers in order to get his contract terminated.
The 27-year-old has been with Detroit’s American Hockey League club, the Grand Rapids Gryphons, for the whole season after agreeing to a one-year, $775,000 contract on July 3. Stevens spent the previous season with the Utica Comets entirely under an AHL contract.
Given that Stevens has never participated in an NHL game, it was very obvious that he would be starting this with the Gryphons. The Brantford, Ontario native has three goals and eleven assists in 31 games with Grand Rapids. On December 9, he scored twice against the Belleville Senators. Due to the AHL’s veteran rule, the sixth-year player has been forced to sit out a few games this season in order to create place for players such as Austin Czarnik and Zach Aston-Reese.
Stevens did participate in two Red Wings preseason games.
