Video for Brewers
We started examining undervalued prospects in the Brewers organisation last year. Given that the Crew has five players (Jackson Chourio, Jeferson Quero, Tyler Black, Joey Ortiz, and Jacob Misiorowski) in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100, it makes sense that many are focusing on their list of top prospects. However, it would be quite narrow-minded to disregard other guys. One overlooked youngster from the previous season turned into a key player in the Crew’s 2023 division title run. Is the Crew able to win the Andruw Monasterio jackpot once more?
A Top 30 list on MLB Pipeline, let alone Brewer Fanatic’s Top 20, has the tendency to leave out players that have significant impact. Despite never making either list, Monasterio was named Brewer Fanatic’s Best Rookie.
Miller had a rough start to the season, but in his second year in Appleton, he showed off his pop and on-base abilities. His left-handed bat might be quite effective at American Family Field, but his defence has never quite measured up to Jeferson Quero’s.
Which bat made by Matthew Wood is authentic? Was it the OBP-heavy bat with a slugging % 300 points lower in Wisconsin, or was it the future slugger in Carolina who had a.956 OPS? If Wood regains his strength, American Family Field would be a great place for him to play. The bright side is that despite Wisconsin’s skid, his OBP abilities were strong. It would be beneficial for him to return to Wisconsin.
Considering that he played in just 30 of the 66 games the Brewers played in 2023, Norman undoubtedly wishes the franchise had retained two ACL teams. His bat was undoubtedly the second most important factor in the team’s victory, only surpassed by Juan Baez’s.897 OPS is excellent for any position, but especially for catcher, given his sometimes erratic defence.
Ordonez displayed a power bat in the DSL earlier. Even with his brief ACL sample from 2023, it was still clear that, like Norman, more playing time would have been advantageous. Even while Ordonez’s bat isn’t quite as dynamic as Norman’s, he yet possesses a more sophisticated defensive style. However, Ordonez is a terrific fit for American Family Field as a left-handed hitter.
Tyler Black went to third base, and Warren moved to first base. Like many other Southern League hitters, he had early-season struggles at the plate, but he recovered to put up respectable totals. Switch-hitter Warren has shown respectable results after being selected in the third round of the shortened 2020 amateur draft. He has spent a lot of time not just at first base but also at third base. During his professional career and in college, he has also worked behind the plate in middle infield positions.
