Green Bay, Wisconsin – The Green Bay Packers have added salary-cap room for the 2024 NFL season. This time, the issue is unrelated to contract restructuring. According to OverTheCap.com, the NFL updated team-by-team estimates to account for unearned incentives and per-game roster bonuses in 2023, among other considerations. According to independent salary-cap expert Ken Ingalls, the Packers earned approximately $5.56 million.
According to OTC, the Packers are approximately $14.18 million under the salary cap. Taking the draft class into consideration, they have approximately $9.66 million in “effective” cap space.
That certainly beats being one of the seven teams remaining above the cap, which includes the Packers’ playoff opponents, the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. However, using effective cap space as a reference point, the Packers are 19th in available cap space, with a $14.5 million gap between them and 18th place. Furthermore, their NFC North opponents are all in better positions. The Chicago Bears are fourth with $66.59 million in cap space, the division-leading Detroit Lions are seventh with $46.32 million, and the Minnesota Vikings are 15th with $30.94 million.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, and Philadelphia Eagles, who joined the Packers in the playoffs, are $34.50 million, $33.41 million, and $25.25 million behind, respectively. So, among the seven NFC playoff teams, the Packers are fifth in terms of cap room.
