The Pittsburgh Steelers have been considered as a potential suitor for a number of high-profile quarterbacks this offseason, but it appears that they are fine with the status quo.
According to Mike DeFabo and Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Steelers are not aggressively seeking any noteworthy veteran quarterbacks who are available for trade or ready to enter free agency. That includes Russell Wilson, who the Steelers are not interested in signing even if he is released by the Denver Broncos. Pittsburgh also has no intention of pursuing Kirk Cousins or Baker Mayfield.
According to reports, the Steelers have also had no negotiations about trading Justin Fields. They were once considered a major favorite to sign the former Ohio State star, but that talk has died down significantly.
Kenny Pickett is entering his third NFL season, and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has stated openly that the young quarterback will have to push for a starting position. Pickett had just six touchdowns and four interceptions in 12 starts last season. He lost his job late last year to Mason Rudolph, who is about to become a free agency.
Steelers general manager Omar Khan recently stated that he has complete faith in Pickett and believes new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith would help the former first-round choice grow. This sentiment may not be shared throughout the organization.
