The Georgia Bulldogs have a new special teams coordinator, as head coach Kirby Smart revealed more staff changes on Wednesday.
Kirk Benedict, who worked as a special teams analyst the previous two seasons, has been elevated to replace Scott Cochran.
According to Smart, Cochran and offensive analyst Darrell Dickey quit to pursue other possibilities.
Cochran, a former strength coach at Alabama, relocated to Georgia in 2020 for an on-field coaching post. He took a leave of absence before of the next season to address mental health issues before returning to Smart’s staff after the first seven games of the 2021 season.
Dickey, 64, spent one season at Georgia after five years as Texas A&M’s offensive coordinator. He was the previous head coach at North Texas.
“I want to thank Scott and Darrell for their contributions to Georgia football,” Smart stated. “We wish them all the best moving forward.”
This was the Bulldogs’ most recent set of coaching changes. Fran Brown, the defensive backs coach, left to become the head coach at Syracuse, while Will Muschamp, the co-defensive coordinator, moved to an analyst job to spend more time with his family.
