The Penrith Panthers and centre Izack Tago have allegedly come to terms on a new contract that will keep him with the club until the conclusion of the 2028 season.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, he is now contracted until the conclusion of the 2025 season, but the club has enhanced his contract by extending it for another three seasons.
It is thought that the team contacted his agent prior to the World team Challenge match against the Wigan Warriors in England, and the deal will pay him $3 million, or $750,000 per season.
This huge deal would make the two-time NRL premiership winner one of the highest-paid centres in the NRL, surpassing Bradman Best’s salary when he re-signed with the Newcastle Knights earlier this year.
He is a Saint Marys Saints kid and has been a phenomenon since Ivan Cleary gave him his NRL debut against the Wests Tigers in 2021. While he hadn’t firmly established himself on the team at the time, he did so quickly.
Sticking to his word, Tago told Zero Tackle last year that he would always chose to stay with the Panthers if given the opportunity.
“Penrith is everything to me; it’s home,” Tago explained.
“I believe that’s a large part of the ethos we have here, since it’s a homegrown club, and the majority of the players are juniors who have come up through Penrith.
“So it’s a home for everyone, and we do our best to give back to the fans.
“I would always choose to stay if I had the option.”
The Penrith Panthers will now focus on re-signing Taylan May, Sunia Turuva, and Mitch Kenny, who are all out of contract at the conclusion of the season.
