The Detroit Lions retained a key veteran while reportedly adding some veteran help.
Graham Glasgow, a veteran lineman, allegedly agreed to a new three-year deal worth $20 million to stay with the Lions.
Meanwhile, the club appears to be preparing to trade for cornerback Carlton Davis from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as well as sign free agent edge rusher Marcus Davenport, who spent last season with the Minnesota Vikings.
Teams could start negotiating with free agents on Monday, but no agreement will be publicized until Wednesday, when the new NFL season begins.
The six-foot-six, 315-pound Glasgow was drafted by Detroit in the third round out of the University of Michigan in 2016. He spent four seasons with the Lions before signing as a free agency with the Denver Broncos in 2020. However, after three seasons with the Broncos, he returned to the Lions on a one-year contract last season to offer depth.
However, injuries forced the 31-year-old Glasgow to start 15 games at three different positions, with the most of his time coming at right guard for Halapoulivaati Vaitai. Glasgow had a 74.9 overall rating, ranking sixth among NFL guards.
Glasgow’s new agreement with Detroit could be even more crucial to the Lions, as left guard Jonah Jackson, a Pro Bowl player in 2021, is reportedly agreed to a three-year, $51 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams.
Looking for extra help at cornerback, the Lions will trade their second pick in the third round of this year’s NFL Draft, the 92nd overall, to Tampa Bay for 27-year-old Davis and sixth-round draft picks in 2024 and 2025.
