The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded cornerback Carlton Davis to the Detroit Lions for a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Lions will also get sixth-round picks in the 2024 and 2025 drafts.
Detroit signed the former Auburn defensive back on Monday, addressing what was viewed as its most pressing defensive need. Only five NFL teams had more passing yards and touchdowns than the Lions in 2023, despite Detroit winning the NFC North and advancing to the conference title game.
Davis spent six NFL seasons with the Buccaneers after being selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He started all but one of his 84 games for the Bucs, including Super Bowl LV, which Tampa Bay won 31-9 over the Kansas City Chiefs on February 7, 2021.
Davis appeared in 12 games in 2023, totaling 52 tackles, two interceptions, and nine passes defended.
Davis finished his NFL career with 324 tackles, nine interceptions, and 73 passes defended.
Davis is entering the final season of a three-year $44.5 million contract that will keep him out of free agency following the 2021 season. Davis’s base pay is $14 million in 2024.
