TRAGIC: Packers are just about landing three players for two years deal $115 million each
The Green Bay Packers received sad news lately when it was reported that the team has parted ways with Aaron Jones. Ignoring the emotional impact of his signing with the Vikings (which still hurts), the team did sign Josh Jacobs yesterday, but they may and should try to strengthen the running back group in any way possible.
AJ Dillon’s statistically disastrous 2023 season suggests that the Packers will be on the lookout for yet another running back. The team may try to stick with Dillon, but why not start fresh with the run game?
Coach LaFleur enjoys playing in a run-oriented West Coast offense, and his master plan for developing around Jordan Love is built on that. Given the team’s running struggles last year, he knew he’d be looking for additional bodies to help the squad in the near future.
The once-young running back has reached or beyond his prime. It feels like yesterday that he was drafted by the Ravens, but 2020 is four years ago. He played a lot of games at Ohio State and had two season-ending injuries while with Baltimore.
He’s undeniably talented, but can he keep himself healthy? Given Green Bay’s injury history over the last few years, definitely not.
Why The Green Bay Packers Should Sign Kareem Hunt
Following Aaron Jones’ dismissal, Hunt’s name has been mentioned as a prospective replacement. Hunt’s dual threat skills as a runner and receiver would compliment Josh Jacob’s power running style well. He’s a proven talent, having accumulated over 6,300 scrimmage yards and 57 touchdowns in his career.
However, there are a few considerations that the Packers may examine. Hunt’s previous off-the-field actions raise character issues. Additionally, at 28 years old, he may not be a long-term option. Many people believe Hunt has passed his prime, and with Jerome Ford taking on a larger role than Hunt last year, Kareem may simply be too old. Last year, however, he scored a touchdown in four consecutive games.
