After being fired as head coach of the Wests Tigers before the end of his contract, Tim Sheens has returned to rugby league in an unexpected new capacity.
Sheens, a four-time premiership winner and former Australian Kangaroos coach, returned to coach the Wests Tigers for the 2023 season as a mentor to Benji Marshall on a two-year contract, but left the club after only one season.
Sheens, regarded as one of the best coaches of all time, began coaching in 1984 for the Tigers, Penrith Panthers, Canberra Raiders, and North Queensland Cowboys, overseeing 778 matches.
In addition, he has coached several representative teams, most notably the NSW Blues (1991) and Kangaroos (2009–2015).
It has now been announced that Sheens has been employed as a consultant by Westfields Sports High School, one of the country’s greatest schoolboy teams.
Westfield Sports High School, led by Lachlan Galvin, defeated Palm Beach Currumbin 38-4 in the national schoolboys championship final.
“I’ve known the school’s coach Troy Wheedon for some time, and we started talking, and one thing led to another,” Sheens told Wide World of Sports.
“It’s a three-day-a-week position, and the school has some excellent young athletes who are eager to learn.
“I’ve always enjoyed working with kids and it’s an exciting new opportunity.”
