The Detroit Lions have opted to re-sign a wide receiver who joined the team at the trade deadline last season. Donovan Peoples-Jones, who was traded to the Lions following a run with the Browns, has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $2 million, according to Bleacher Report. Despite joining one of the NFL’s top offensive groups, the veteran wideout had little impact.
In eight games following the trade, the former Michigan Wolverines wideout recorded 72 offensive snaps, five receptions for 58 yards on seven total targets. Lions lose two key special teams contributors Detroit has certainly not overlooked the importance of special teams contributors. In free agency, two key contributors have departed that have left a hole in Dave Fipp’s special teams unit. Chase Lucas, who is the first player drafted by general manager Brad Holmes to depart, signed with the San Francisco 49ers, while linebacker Anthony Pittman departed for the Washington Commanders.
According to reports, cornerback Tavierre Thomas, who visited the Lions earlier this week, is now visiting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thomas is well-known for his ability on special teams.
