Geno VanDeMark is moving to a new school to play for a familiar team.
The former Michigan State redshirt junior starting right guard announced his transfer to Alabama on social media on Saturday. This reunites him with offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic, who spent the previous four seasons with the Spartans and is now in his first year with the Crimson Tide.
VanDeMark, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 329 pounds, made eight starts at right guard for the Spartans over the last two seasons. He entered the portal on April 30, his second time in five months, and has two seasons of eligibility left.
A former three-star recruit from New Jersey, VanDeMark didn’t play while taking a redshirt as a true freshman in 2021. He made two starts in 10 games the following season and six starts in eight games last year while missing four games due to an undisclosed injury.
After entering the portal in November, VanDeMark received multiple offers and said he took one official visit but declined to name the school. He was working as Michigan State’s starting right guard during the final spring practice on April 20 under first-year coach Jonathan Smith.
