As the Atlanta Braves prepare to be active before the MLB Trade Deadline, recent reports are that they will seek to bolster their pitching staff.
It has been a good and bad season for the Atlanta Braves this year. On the good side, they are currently in second place in the NL East and once again appear like they will be making the playoffs this season. On the bad side, they have lost arguably both their best hitter, outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr., and their best pitcher, Spencer Strider, for the season.
Despite being dealt tough injury blows, the Braves just keep finding ways to win games. One of the reasons for their success has been their pitching staff, even without Strider. Despite this, recent reports are that the Atlanta Braves will be looking to add another big arm to their rotation according to Jeff Passan. Here’s what he had to say.
“Despite the Braves’ offensive struggles and wondrous pitching, opposing teams see Atlanta’s biggest need on the mound— even after losing the reigning NL MVP,” Passan wrote.
While the pitching staff has been great for the Braves so far this season, their performances long-term might not be sustainable. Chris Sale has been one of the best pitchers in baseball once again, which was a surprise. Also, the Braves have seen a great season from Reynaldo López, who is posting an ERA under 2.00.
One of the reasons why the Braves have been so successful is that very rarely in the last few years have they been content at the trade deadline. With a very talented Philadelphia Phillies team in their division, the Braves know that they have to be buyers come the trade deadline.
While we will likely see the Atlanta Braves try to add some depth to replace Acuna, we also have to keep an eye out for the possibility that they will look to add to their already strong rotation.
