India play their first Super 8s game in the T20 World Cup 2024 against Afghanistan on Thursday, 20 June. India have a slight concern with their batting form with the batters not exactly dominating in the New York strip in the group stage of the tournament. Opener Virat Kohli has scored in single-digits thrice in three matches however, former cricketer Irfan Pathan is not concerned with that at all.
Speaking on Star Sports ahead of India’s match vs Afghanistan, Pathan said that Kohli was a big match player and would surely step up in the important games. Kohli has been ultra-aggressive throughout the group stage of the tournament and has given way his wickets while trying to play his shots early in the innings, something that the fans had been wanting from him, throughout the IPL.
“He knows how to stand up in big matches, isn’t it? That’s what makes him really, really special. He’s a special player and I’m sure he’s going to put his hand up and say OK, I’m going to do this for Team India and when the time comes, especially the big matches, we always have seen from Virat Kohli that he performs. Just wait and watch, the slog sweep will come out now. He will definitely use those shots because, look, those conditions in New York. But now things will be different and you’ll see a real Virat Kohli coming to the fore,” Irfan Pathan said ahead of the India vs Afghanistan match.
