Gunshots rang out at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade and celebration on Wednesday, killing one and injuring at least 21 others. During a news conference, Stacey Graves, police chief of the Kansas City (Mo.) Police Department, announced that 22 individuals had been shot. At least seven people had life-threatening injuries. Graves stated that an inquiry into the motive for the shooting was underway. She stated that three persons have been detained and are being investigated for Wednesday’s event.
Officers… promptly provided life-saving assistance to those victims,” Graves stated. “We know one of the victims (was) deceased.” The shooting killed disc jockey Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two from Shawnee, Kansas. KKFI, a radio station in Kansas City, Missouri, said “It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Taste of Tejano lost her life today in the shooting at the KC Chiefs’ rally.” Jackson County (Mo.) politician Manny Abarca tweeted, “I’ve known Lisa and her family for over a decade. I’ve seen her smile across DJ equipment and on stage at our greatest Fiesta in #KansasCity… I’m not going to let her death go in vain.
