Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions are now in the midst of what is expected to be a pivotal offseason for the franchise’s future orientation. Campbell just led his Lions to the NFC Championship Game, where they lost a 17-point halftime lead to the San Francisco 49ers, bringing a heartbreaking end to the franchise’s historic 2023 season.
One player who was part of that amazing run who has since left the team is tight end Zach Ertz, who has signed with the Washington Commanders. Nonetheless, it appears that Ertz has nothing but admiration for Campbell and his team, which he gained during his one-year tenure at the organization.
“Everyone knows what occurred; we did not complete the game. “It was tough watching, man,” Ertz told ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday, according to Will Burchfield of Audacy. “I wanted to be outside. And just being out there, I love Detroit, I love Dan Campbell, Steve Heiden is my tight end coach, and Sam LaPorta is a stud, dude. So it was a lot of fun being outside. Especially after all the drama in Arizona, it was fantastic to be back in a culture that was competing for an NFC Championship.”
Indeed, the Lions could have used Zach Ertz’s talents to help stabilize an offense that had abruptly stalled after halftime against the 49ers. In any event, Campbell appears to be making a good impression on his teammates.
