Birmingham City announced Monday morning that manager Tony Mowbray would be stepping down from his role after only eight games in charge.
Mowbray seemingly left his players and staff in shock when he announced in the locker room he would be taking some time away to seek medical treatment.
The 60-year-old’s illness has yet to be revealed, so the severity of his diagnosis is unclear however the club confirmed he would be stepping down as manager for at least six to eight weeks.
During his time away from the pitch, Mowbray is sure to rely on his wife of 21 years, Amber and their three sons they share together.
Amber has already helped the former football player through difficult times in the past and is sure to be the rock he leans on during his treatment.
Although the couple like to keep their relationship out of public eye and private, Mowbray has been on record praising his second wife on numerous occasions for all the love and support she has shown him over their 20-plus-year relationship.
No more so than helping him overcome the heartbreak of his first wife’s, Bernadette’s death.
Mowbray’s time at Celtic was overshadowed very sadly by the tragic passing of his wife Bernadette on New Year’s Day in 1995.
The pair had just tied the knot eight months prior before she passed away due to her long going battle with breast cancer.
‘I didn’t play very well at all. My personal life was obviously affected after I lost Bernadette and in hindsight my concentration was clearly affected by that loss’.
‘I was living in Suffolk, 350 miles from my home in Middlesbrough and even further away from friends and Bernadette’s family in Glasgow. I just didn’t do myself justice.
‘It was very difficult – but as time moved on, other aspects of my life took over. Eventually I met Amber’.
Friends of Tony also have said how much Amber has helped him out of his lowest moments.
One friend speaking in the article also added that ‘Amber has a really strong character and it is obvious that she has been a real strength for Tony when he was at his lowest’.
Amber and their three children the share together are sure to provide support and love to the Middlesbrough manager as he is set to go through another difficult time in his life, while he seeks medical treatment for six to eight weeks.
