CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston head men’s basketball coach Pat Kelsey has announced the addition of Division II national champion Kobe Rodgers to the 2023-2024 roster.
Rodgers played two season for Division II Nova Southeastern, starting every contest this season on the way to the Division II national title. The Cincinnati native averaged 13.2 points per game including a 21-point performance in the national semifinals. He totaled 73 steals with 142 rebounds during the campaign that saw the Sharks go undefeated.
“Kobe is a true two-way player with phenomenal basketball instincts. His athleticism and length combined with a diverse skill set allows him to play on or off the ball offensively and to guard multiple positions defensively,” said Kelsey. “The coaching fraternity in Cincinnati which is one of the best in the country in my opinion raves about Kobe as a player, competitor and person.”
During his rookie season, Rodgers appeared in 20 games, making 19 starts while averaging 8.3 points, 2.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds. He made the game winning shot against Union (TN) with 0.5 seconds left to send the Sharks to the Sweet 16 and keep their undefeated season alive.
“Kobe lost his father (who was a prominent Cincinnatian) to cancer at a young age and to see how he has persevered and succeeded is very inspiring,” added Kelsey. “In meeting his mother, sister and others in his support circle it is easy to see why. Kobe has a chip on his shoulder that we covet here at Charleston.”
