Last year, the Green Bay Packers heralded the start of a new era when they agreed to a blockbuster trade that sent superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.
Despite the fact that this indicated that the team would be entering a rebuilding era under head coach Matt LaFleur, the Packers beat the odds in the first round of the NFL playoffs in 2023, defeating the second-seeded Dallas Cowboys.
The Packers are looking forward to what appears to be a promising future, but some of the team’s top players from previous years may not be in the team’s plans going forward.
Veteran left tackle David Bakhtiari was apparently not in the team’s long-term plans when he was released this week, prompting head coach Matt LaFleur to lavish him with praise, calling him one of the league’s best offensive linemen in the time he’s been coaching, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.
It is unclear what Bakhtiari intends to do next, but there will undoubtedly be interest in his services if he wants to continue playing in the NFL.
Unfortunately for Bakhtiari, he was not with the Packers when they won the Super Bowl, so he may still want to capture the Vince Lombardi Trophy before retiring.
Bakhtiari was chosen All-Pro five times while in Green Bay and was widely recognized as an excellent player at his position.
