NASCAR driver Ryan Preece gets medical clearance to return home after terrifying crash at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (AP) Ryan Preece, the NASCAR driver whose car rolled nearly a dozen times during a harrowing incident at Daytona International Speedway, was on his way home about 12 hours after being released from the hospital on Sunday. Stewart-Haas Racing said Preece was returning to North Carolina after receiving clearance from doctors at Halifax Health Medical Centre. The team previously stated that Preece was “awake, attentive, and mobile” and had been talking with relatives and friends.
On Saturday night, Preece, 32, was able to clamber out of his damaged No. 41 Ford with the assistance of emergency personnel before being loaded onto a bed and transported to an ambulance. He first went to the track’s infield care centre before being taken to Halifax Health for overnight observation. Preece tweeted around two hours after the race, saying, “If you want to be a race car driver, you have to be strong. “I’m coming back.
Preece and SHR teammate Chase Briscoe collided coming out of Turn 4, and Preece’s car spun hard left before entering an uncontrollable barrel roll as it slid from the asphalt to the infield grass. The car skidded to a rest on all four tyres, causing minor damage to its roll cage.
