An Open Letter from Pete Alonso to Roman Anthony and the Entire New York Mets Community
As I write this letter, my heart is full of mixed emotions—gratitude, love, and a deep sense of pride. Over the past few years, being a part of the New York Mets organization has been one of the greatest honors of my life. The journey we’ve shared has been full of unforgettable moments, highs and lows, and a bond that I’ll carry with me forever.
Roman, I want to address you personally, because I see so much of the future in your talent and determination. From the moment I saw you step into the batter’s box, I could tell you have something special. As a young player, your passion and work ethic remind me of what it takes to succeed at the highest level. Trust me when I say, your journey is just beginning, and I have no doubt you’ll continue to represent this organization with the pride and passion it deserves. I want you to know that I’m always here for advice, guidance, or just to chat about the game. You’re not just a teammate but a friend, and I’m excited to watch you grow into the star you’re destined to be.
To the entire Mets community, the fans, the city of New York—thank you. From the first time I put on a Mets uniform, I felt something incredible. The energy in the ballpark, the passion from the fans, the excitement that comes with wearing the blue and orange—it’s something you can’t describe until you experience it. You welcomed me with open arms, and together, we’ve built something special. The memories we’ve shared, from the walks-off to the home runs, the tough losses and hard-fought wins—each moment has shaped who I am as a player and, more importantly, as a person.
I’m so grateful for the relationships I’ve built in this organization. From the coaches and staff who helped me evolve into the player I am today, to my teammates who I’ve had the privilege of sharing the field with, every single one of you has played a role in shaping my career. Whether it was a big win or a tough loss, we’ve all been in this together, and I’m thankful for each of you.
To the fans—thank you for your unwavering support. The noise in the stadium when I hit a big home run, the chants, the cheers—it’s something that gave me energy every single day. But it wasn’t just the good times; it was also the tough times. You stood by me when things weren’t going our way, and that’s what makes this community unlike any other in sports. The Mets’ fans are among the most passionate and loyal in the world, and you have my deepest respect and gratitude.
As I move forward in my career, I want to make sure you know that New York will always have a piece of my heart. I’m beyond thankful for everything this city and this team has given me. The lessons I’ve learned, the people I’ve met, and the chance to wear the Mets uniform are things I’ll cherish forever. And while this chapter of my journey has come to an end, I’ll always carry the Mets with me, no matter where I go.
Thank you for believing in me, for supporting me, and for being a part of this unforgettable journey. I’ll never forget what we’ve built together, and I wish nothing but the best for all of you in the future.
