An Emotional Heartfelt Letter from Lindsey Vonn to Fans and the Entire Community
Dear Friends, Fans, and the Entire Community,
As I sit down to write this, I find myself overwhelmed with emotion, reflecting on the incredible journey I’ve had, both on and off the slopes. My heart is full as I think about the love, support, and unwavering belief you’ve all shown me over the years. Today, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude, share my thoughts, and open up about my deepest feelings as I look back on my career and all of the experiences that have shaped me.
When I first started skiing, it wasn’t with any grand vision of being a legend or an icon; I was just a young girl with a passion for the sport, eager to follow in the footsteps of those I looked up to. Little did I know that my dream of reaching the top would not only be a personal journey but also one that would connect me with so many people around the world. You, my fans, have been by my side from the very beginning, and I cannot express how much your encouragement has meant to me. Whether you cheered me on in the stands, supported me through my victories and defeats, or simply sent words of kindness when I needed them most, you were always there. You were, and still are, my rock.
As many of you know, my journey has been filled with both triumphs and challenges. There have been moments of unparalleled joy when I stood atop the podium, knowing that I had given everything I had, and then there were the difficult moments—injuries, setbacks, and times when I doubted myself. But every single moment, whether good or bad, taught me something invaluable. They taught me resilience, strength, and the importance of perseverance. I want you all to know that none of my achievements would have been possible without the support of my incredible team, my family, and, most importantly, you—the fans who believed in me when I had doubts about myself.
When I announced my retirement from competitive skiing, it was not just the end of an era for me, but for everyone who had followed my journey. I had to say goodbye to something that had defined my life for over two decades. But as I’ve moved forward, I’ve realized that the sport, my career, and my legacy aren’t just about medals or records. They’re about the lives I’ve touched, the inspiration I’ve been fortunate enough to provide, and the community that I’ve had the privilege of being a part of. My story is not just my own; it’s intertwined with all of yours. You’ve lifted me up through every challenge, celebrated my victories, and provided solace in moments of doubt.
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has been a part of this journey. To my fellow athletes, you’ve been my biggest motivators and my fiercest competitors. The camaraderie and mutual respect we share in the sports world is something I will forever hold dear. To my family and friends, your love has been my guiding light. You kept me grounded when the spotlight was too bright, and you gave me the strength to push through every injury, every fall, and every setback.
As I look ahead to the next chapter of my life, I am filled with hope. Though my time on the slopes may be over, my journey is far from finished. I will continue to advocate for the things that matter to me—empowering women in sports, giving back to communities, and inspiring the next generation of athletes. I am excited to take on new challenges, explore new passions, and, most importantly, remain connected to the incredible community that has supported me every step of the way.
To my fans, thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives. You have shared my triumphs and disappointments, and you have given me a platform to inspire others. I am truly humbled by your love and devotion. Your belief in me has helped me believe in myself when I needed it the most. My hope is that I’ve been able to give you something in return: a sense of hope, a reminder to push through obstacles, and the courage to chase your dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem.
