Are the Milwaukee Brewers planning to tear it down? Trading former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles indicates that they intend to shake things up. Another clue is that Willy Adames, who was previously unavailable for trade, is suddenly on the market.
The Brewers recently signed first baseman Rhys Hoskins and still have Christian Yelich, but selling Burnes is a clear indication that they want to reload. According to USA TODAY Sports’ Bob Nightengale, the next step could be to trade Adames.
Nightengale writes: “The Milwaukee Brewers are informing teams that shortstop Willy Adames is available now that they have acquired defensive whiz Joey Ortiz from the Orioles. They might also move Adames at the deadline or let him leave as a free agent next winter.”
(Side note: it’s amusing to hear Nightengale suggest that the Brewers might waste a year of Adames and receive nothing in return as a viable option.)
Adames had a.737 OPS over his last two seasons, which included 288 games and 1,255 plate appearances, 254 hits, 178 RBI, 120 walks, and 55 homers. The only shortstops to hit more dingers over the last two seasons are Corey Seager. and
The Brewers might deal Adames to the Los Angeles Angels, who are still trying to compete after losing Shohei Ohtani in free agency to the Dodgers. Speaking of the Dodgers, they were once linked to a Burnes-Adames trade and may pursue Adames again, albeit they still have Gavin Lux.
