Dejounte Murray’s name has been regularly in trade rumors throughout the 2023-24 season. The Atlanta Hawks are underperforming, Murray’s fit with Trae Young is clunky, and he’s ready to begin a four-year contract that is appealing to teams looking for backcourt help in the coming years. As a result, there have been near-constant rumblings regarding Murray’s future, but on Thursday, less than 15 minutes before the trade deadline, we heard that Murray is staying here. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, despite their efforts to make a trade, Murray will remain in Atlanta. Murray spent the first five years of his career with the San Antonio Spurs, where he made the All-Star team in 2022 and established himself as one of the NBA’s best guard defenders. Atlanta paid a high price to acquire him the next offseason, as the team traded a trio of first-round picks, a pick swap, and veteran forward Danilo Gallinari.
