Aaron Hill, a former University of Minnesota linebacker, is the Packers’ new strength and conditioning coach. He spent the previous five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur has made the final significant addition to his coaching staff this offseason, appointing Aaron Hill as the team’s strength and conditioning coach.
The news was first reported by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Hill spent the previous five seasons with the 49ers, working alongside Dustin Perry, the team’s head strength and conditioning coach.
The 49ers acquired injured running back Christian McCaffrey at the 2022 trade deadline. McCaffrey played three games for Carolina in 2020 and seven games in 2021. With the 49ers in 2023, he played in 16 of 17 games and was named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year with league-leading totals of 1,459 running yards, 2,023 total yards, and 339 yards.
Trent Williams, the 49ers’ All-Pro left tackle, has missed nine games in four years with the team. He missed 15 games throughout his final four seasons with Washington.
From 2009 until 2013, Hill was a walk-on linebacker at the University of Minnesota, recording 192 tackles, five forced fumbles, and four interceptions. In 2014, he competed for a position on the St. Louis Rams’ undrafted rookie roster.
“I’m a positive guy,” Hill stated in 2013. “I provide a lot of energy. That, I believe, is one of the most significant and important aspects of the season.”
In the same piece, then-Gophers strength and conditioning coach Eric Klein stated, “He’s a natural leader.” It is never forced. It simply flows out of him naturally, and it’s pretty cool to see. I think he has a strong command of his own presence, and I believe guys thrive off of that.
Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers coach, hired him in 2019.
Hill takes over for Chris Gizzi. He was a former Packers linebacker who served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2014 to 2018 until taking over as head coach after LaFleur was hired in 2019.
Injuries did not destroy the Packers this season. In fact, they were relatively healthy in certain areas. The offensive line started the final 13 regular-season games together, but the five-man defensive line did not miss a single one. However, receiver Christian Watson and cornerback Eric Stokes’ seasons were cut short due to hamstring problems.
“I do want to say Chris Gizzi’s an outstanding strength coach, and I couldn’t have more respect for him,” general manager Brian Gutekunst stated on February 1. “I believe that multiple voices are necessary at times. Certainly, that is a significant element of our process. Those men have a big impact on our players, and their buy-in to what we’re doing here is also very crucial.”
