Phil Mafah, Clemson football’s best rusher, will not join the 2024 NFL Draft and will instead return for his senior year with the team. Clemson’s athletic department confirmed to FOX Carolina that Mafah did not submit any paperwork to enter the draft by the mandated deadline, which was Monday for underclassmen. Mafah will return to Clemson as the team’s uncontested top running back after his teammate and roommate, Will Shipley, declared for the draft on January 3rd. As a junior, Mafah had 179 carries for 965 yards (5.4 yards per carry) and 13 touchdowns. After scoring a Gator Bowl record four rushing…

The Indianapolis Colts have some work to do this offseason. They showed a lot of promise in their debut season under head coach Shane Steichen, but they fell short of the playoffs. Injuries, including one to rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson, were undoubtedly a factor, but there is no disputing that the Colts could use more firepower. Jonathan Taylor is an elite back. Michael Pittman Jr proved his value to the Colts offense this season, and the Colts would be wise to bring him back. Josh Downs flashed tons of promise as a rookie. That said, it still seems like there…

Travaris Robinson, the new Georgia defensive coordinator, had a busy few days following the retirement announcement of renowned Alabama head coach Nick Saban. That attitude was, of course, shared by much of the collegiate football world, but few outside of new Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer understood Robinson’s situation. Robinson took over at UGA shortly after Saban retired. He was previously Alabama’s cornerbacks coach and was regarded as one of the greatest recruiters on the Crimson Tide’s staff. To DeBoer’s credit, when he got the Alabama head-coaching gig, he immediately brought Robinson back to Tuscaloosa to see if the up-and-coming…

The Chicago Bears had a very up-and-down defensive season in 2023. While their secondary led the NFL with 22 interceptions, the Bears were also second to last in sacks, having been dead last in total sacks in 2022. Demarcus Walker and Yannick Ngakoue were significant summer additions, but they were unable to produce at their former levels. This was partly owing to Ngakoue missing four games this season, the most since 2020. However, the Bears traded for defensive end Montez Sweat in October, and he recorded six sacks, giving him a total of 12.5 sacks this season between Washington and…

The Detroit Lions defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-6 away from home earlier this season, and the oddsmakers are taking note of that heading into this weekend’s divisional playoff matchup. Caesars Sportsbooks has the Lions as six-point favorites, as do most of the regular suspects, with a couple of detractors holding the line at seven points. Unlike last week, the Action Network says that 68% of public bets are in favor of the Lions returning to Ford Field. And that home-field advantage should not be overlooked. The crowd of 66,000-plus fans was buzzing from an hour before kickoff until they…

Changes were expected for the Chicago Bears this offseason. And, it turns out, changes are being made in both the front office and the coaching staff. This transformation occurs at the highest top of the organization. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune has reported that Senior Vice President and General Counsel Cliff Stein — a mouthful of a title — has left the organization. Clif leaves the organization after serving 22 years in various roles, but most notably, as their dedicated financial salary cap expert. No succession plan, if any, is known at this time. It appears Team President and CEO…

The Pitt Panthers will host the Clemson Tigers next season as part of the ACC’s new scheduling model but the challenge will be less difficult with one of their star offensive players headed out of the program. Clemson’s starting tailback, Will Shipley, has announced that he will enter the NFL Draft this year after a stellar three-year college career, meaning he won’t make the trip to play Pitt on 2024. Shipley’s accounted for 850 or more total yards in each of his three seasons at Clemson, including a 1,425-yard, 15-touchdown campaign in 2022. He’s amassed 1,071 yards and seven touchdowns…
