Sad news Tomac on his serious injury – deja vu in Denver

It’s thumbs down for Star Racing Yamaha late in the supercross season. One year after losing the supercross title due to tearing his achilles at his home event in Denver while cruising out front, Eli Tomac was hoping for some redemption this season but unfortunately a crash left the home town favourite with another injury – this time a broken thumb!

Yet again it was terrible timing with Tomac and Yamaha having just announced he would be racing the full outdoors season, in one crash another title opportunity goes down the drain. Tomac isn’t having a lot of luck late in his career.

Eli said: “This is not the news I wanted to break to everyone, but at the Denver Supercross in free practice I crashed on my thumb and it’s resulted in a Bennett fracture and some torn ligaments that will require surgery to stabilize my thumb. This is a tough one to swallow, knowing that I’m going to miss the opening rounds of motocross, but I’m optimistic I will be able to race the later portion of the outdoor season and the SMX rounds. I want to thank all my fans and Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing for being so supportive through the Supercross season. We will be back stronger in the later half of this season.”

Amazingly this is the second thumb injury to hut the team with Cooper Webb suffering a ligament injury to his thumb in a crash (ironically crashing in to Jett) at Birmingham that looks t be ruling him out of the Nationals as well! Webb will be riding tomorrow night just incase anything goes wrong for Jett Lawrence and he can pick up the pieces.

Yamaha’s two big hitters out with thumb injuries is not something anyone could have predicted this season! This sport is unforgiving!
