Heart break:Timothy Miller, who sings ‘God Bless America’ at Braves home games in plane crash…………………
Many ballparks decided to start regularly performing “God Bless America” during seventh-inning breaks in the years that followed the tragedy. Timothy Miller, an Augusta, Georgia-native chorale tenor, has been leading Atlanta Braves supporters through the process of singing the popular tribute to American life since 2010. When it comes to his feelings about his time spent with the Braves, he talks about how every seventh inning is an experience that goes much beyond a regular concert. Miller responds, “It really is an honour.” “I believe that this is just one more opportunity for us to get together as a group, reflect, express gratitude, and look forward—to be grateful for what we have.
music will always have a viable attraction for fans of true musicianship.
“Going back to the founding of our country, Atlanta was not necessarily the hub of the arts. The northeast quadrant is where European music masters came over (to America),” Miller says. “They, they started the symphonies, the orchestras, the opera companies and took a post and important searches. Atlanta is unique in that people respond to music if it’s done right — whether it’s classical, whether it’s gospel, whether it’s hip hop. If you can tell people have put the time and the effort into mastering their craft or developing the art, people certainly respond to that.”
Even though he doesn’t get out on the road as much, the Atlanta metro area has provided Miller with his fair share of vocal-related trades.
In addition to singing at Sunday games, holiday games and playoff games in SunTrust Park, he teaches at Morehouse, continues to sing in local choral groups and moonlights whenever a trained opera singer is needed in the local entertainment business.
Much to the surprise of fans who know him as the buttoned-up, classically trained tenor on the baseball diamond, he’s provided his voice to two television spots on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block, which is partly operated out of an office and studio in Atlanta.
In one of the commercials, Miller sings a hilarious ode to the popular animated series “Bob’s Burgers.”
