Breaking News: Caitlin Clark won WNBA Rookie of the Year
The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Award race was a close battle for most of the season between Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.
Clark distanced herself as the clear-cut favorite as the season went on and all but sealed the award after Reese suffered a season-ending wrist injury with six games left, and the vote ended up nearly unanimous in Clark’s favor.
The former Iowa star Clark and first overall pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft received 66 first-place votes, with the former LSU star Reese and fifth overall pick receiving one vote.
Clark was the first rookie in WNBA history to lead the league in assists, averaging 8.4 per game while also averaging 19.2 points and 5.7 rebounds, which helped the Fever reach the playoffs.
Reese’s season was also impressive despite the Sky missing the playoffs, as she led the league with an average of 13.1 rebounds per game and had a streak of 15 straight double-doubles.
Clark caught fire in the season’s second half, averaging 23.2 points per game during the Fever’s final 14 games, while the Sky went 2-12 during that stretch and saw Reese miss the final six games.
