During his disastrous tenure at Old Trafford, David Moyes disclosed that Sir Alex Ferguson wholeheartedly supported his choice to pursue one “big acquisition” for Manchester United. After leading Manchester United to their final Premier League championship, Sir Alex Ferguson announced the end of his illustrious career in 2013.
The renowned 82-year-old former United boss wanted David Moyes, who left the team at the end of the 2012–13 season, to take over as manager at Old Trafford. After spending a considerable amount of time at Everton, David Moyes gained recognition. He joined United in 2013 and signed a six-year contract. The 61-year-old Scotsman’s only trophy at Old Trafford was the Community Shield, which United won 2-0 over Wigan Athletic in 2013.
But Moyes had a difficult time leading the Premier League winners at the time, and after just ten months in command, the former Everton manager was fired. After Moyes was fired in 2014, Ryan Giggs, a legend of United who served as a player-coach, was named Red Devils’ temporary manager.
