Castellanos was one of the best pitchers for the Reno Aces in 2024, compiling a 9-1 record and a 3.81 ERA. His success earned him a spot in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League Championship
However, his time with the Diamondbacks was limited. The 26-year-old pitched in just seven games. During a start in June, which was his first in the majors all year, Castellanos allowed five earned runs in 2.1 innings against the Padres. This resulted in him being sent back to Triple-A immediately after. While Castellanos did get another opportunity in July, and he did well, allowing just one earned run in 8.1 innings, he then spent the rest of the season in Triple-A.
Castellanos missed the entire 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery due to a torn UCL. In his previous major league stints, he started nine games in 2022, posting a 5.48 ERA, and seven games in 2021, finishing with a 5.12 ERA.
In addition to Castellanos, other players across the league testing free agency include Aramis Garcia, Abraham Toro, Brandon Bielak, Caleb Boushley, Jake Brentz, Domingo Germán, and Jeff Lindgren.
