The narrative was clear—Richardson, a Dallas native, didn’t secure gold in the women’s 100-meter dash at the Games, leading some fans to question her status as an elite sprinter.

Thomas addressed the issue in a TikTok video posted a few hours ago. In the brief clip, she silently conveys that such trivial debates have no place in sports. Walking through the streets, she doesn’t say a word, but her confident demeanor and a simple hair flip deliver a powerful message.

“Just a friendly reminder that you can uplift one woman without bringing down another,” the Massachusetts resident asserts in her post. Her gaze, directed away from the camera, suggests her disinterest in the petty comparisons, while her composed yet determined expression underscores her refusal to let the noise distract her.

Both athletes played vital roles in securing Team USA’s gold in the women’s 4x100m relay at the Paris Games. Thomas ran a thrilling third leg, handing off the baton to Richardson and keeping their team in contention. Despite an early deficit, Richardson anchored the race, leading Team USA to victory in 41.78 seconds, narrowly defeating Britain’s Daryll Neita. In an interview with Refinery 29, Richardson revealed that Thomas’s voice was the only one she could hear during the race, describing it as a source of determination.

After missing out on gold in the individual 100m race to Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred, Richardson had another chance to prove herself in the relay. Although she fell short in the individual event, the relay allowed her to demonstrate her resilience and skill.

Thomas addressed the backlash, expressing disappointment at the calls to boycott the Olympics. She urged people to support the many Black athletes who had dedicated years to reaching this moment, noting that the anger toward the Olympics was misdirected.
